World Soil Day celebration in Aosta valley

The initiative was promoted by the Regional Observatory on soil consumption of Aosta Valley, which is strongly committed in training, awareness raising and education about soil. A conference was organised for professionals, practitioners, administrators. The themes included: soil research and mapping in the Alps, agricultural land management, mountain pastures & high quality cheese production (e.g. the Renquefleur, a new cheese type produced in limited quantity). The speeches underlined the link between healthy soils and high quality food production. A full-day session targeted primary and secondary schools. Kids had a chance to discover soil properties & functions through hands-on activities and experiments.
